Reaction Essay


At the first point of “ The Tipping Point”, Malcolm Gladwell, the author of this book, mentioned why some concepts, behaviors, and products can spread very fast. The most important part is that information can spread very fast by word of mouth. The author thinks that people who create new trends in thought are dreamers. The way which dreamers spread their mind is advertisement. The author called them connectors. The kind of people who start new ideas are called “The law of the Few”. This law mentions three types of people: connectors, mavens, and salesmen. 

Furthermore, he talks about other rules of epidemics called “The stickiness Factor” and “The power of context”. Another interesting chapter is “The Magic Number”. We are easily influenced by people around us so we make lots of small communities. But what is the best number for community? 150! This number is easy to connect. The most important thing is that in a small community everyone knows each other. In a small community, the pressure from friends is greater than from a boss. 

People do not want to disappoint their friends. People who know each other well will create a interactive memory system, where different people each do the specific things they are good at. The interactive memory constitutes parts of intimate relationship. This is called tacit understanding.

I think The Tipping point is one of the best non-fiction books. I think everyone should read it. This is because we can learn a lot from it. If you want to be a businessman, I strongly recommend you to read it. 

After read it, I was thinking why some products can be very popular. For example, iPhone is very popular. I think that is because iPhone has a lot of special thing. The appearance of iPhone is very concise. I do not find any other phones as beautiful as the iPhone. The software of the iPhone is very useful. Apple uses cutting edge technology to design iPhone. Because it has so many advantages that make it awesome. 

If people want to create a fashion trend, they should specialize on one specific part of fashion. I think connectors, mavens, and salesman are the perfect people to spread information. For example, Steven Jobs could sale iPhone very well. I think he was all three of these people. Because of that, I highly recommend this book.
